Croatia early stomping on the opponent s rigid four in line at midfield at the start and when Azerbaijan switched to 3-5-2 the strength of three playmakers playing so close to each other was even more appearent.

Croatia played without a defensive midfielder, Luka Modric took the spot to play deep lying playmaker in the role, with Marcelo Brozovic covering the right side of the pitch and acting more as a box to box old school midfielder.

It was as beautiful as always to watch the side playing their best formation, but it s going to be very interesting if Kovac decides to play the same formation (without the true holding midfielder) against much more organized side, such as Italy.
